VITÓ JULIÃO

WEDNESDAY WALL OF FAME !

Portuguese illustrator and street artist Vitor Julião aka Vitó has a particular way of presenting innocent playful though-with-a-sense-of-absurdity-and-wickedness characters that speak to the imagination of each and everyone through its peculiar statements. Having the opportunity to participate different street art fests (Loures Arte Pública / Caldas Meeting Jam / Muro LX…) as well as working with a wide variety of clients (Federação Portuguesa de Futebol / Holmes Place / uni POSCA / EDP…) he is familiar and eccentric in different activities like graffiti workshops, live paintings, team buildings… .

We had the chance to have a beer with him and get to know the wicked & wonderful brain behind these playful sceneries he creates on walls, canvas and everything that is digital or that sticks !

Lsat » What is your work about?

Vitó » My work reflects what I see on a daily basis as well as my own feelings. Usually I use cute characters that show feelings like love, passion and pain of lost loves. I try to show how important it is to remember to express our love always and not only on specific dates, small gestures make all the difference. My work is also inspired from cartoons and alternative music.

Lsat » When and how come you started to share your work in the streets?

Vitó » Painting on the streets is quite recent, I started in 2016 at the 1st edition of the International Street Art Festival, Loures Public Art and in the same year I was invited to paint a gable at the renowned Public Art Gallery of Quinta do Mocho. This year I will participate in my first Street Art Festival outside of Portugal, in Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

Lsat » Where do you paint? How do you use the space in addition to your work?

Vitó » I have a lot of illustration work so I usually spend a lot of time in the studio, but whenever I can I like to put on the streets some stickers and paste up.

Lsat » What memorable responses have you had to your work? And what is the wall you are most proud of?

Vitó » The best response I’ve had from the public was about a painting I did last year and that no longer exists, in which people were quite unhappy that it was deleted. The painting that I have the most pride and affection is the “King Of Love” that I painted in the Public Art Gallery of Quinta do Mocho.
