WEDNESDAY WALL OF FAME !
Young, driven… and ready to take over the world ! Last summer this sympatique French artist came to Lisbon with a mission: mark the city with a superb mixture of calligraphy, street art and the well-known cartoon character Snoopy. Driven by the life-philosophy of this little dog, he immerses himself to experiment his passions and develop his techniques continuously. He left behind some incredible pieces representing his own kind of calligraffiti. Not only on walls but even on one particular lovely rooftop (scroll down ; ). We even managed to host one of his paintings with our collective yesyoucan.spray. Good vibes and lots of persistence is what marked this young talent from abroad !
Q. Who are you?
I’m Dark aka Dark Snooopy, French street artist based in Paris. I think I can say I’m a self-made artist, I learned graphic design in my high school but this is something lil’ (little) bit different.

Q. What is your work about?
As far as I can remember, typography has always been a great source of inspiration and fascination for me. For example, seeing how each nation regroups itself around a language to support its society, express itself or be understood: here’s a very interesting subject ! If we look at it, everybody tries to communicate with one another but in his own language which has its own particularities and significations. This is what I try to point out in my work, by mixing shapes and languages from all over the world which, when joined, ultimately create some similarity in the difference.
Q. When and how come you started to share your work in the streets?
When I was 17 I used to go to some hidden Parisian spots to paint some graffiti. Then I discover calligraphy at 19 and it comes naturally to do it on walls, maybe because of the well-being feeling I have when I paint on huge sizes.

Q. Where do you paint? And how do you use the space in addition to your work?
I want to paint everywhere and so I try to travel a lot to make it possible. It really depend sof the wall I’m goin’ to paint. Most of the time, I love to play with the colors in the area and try to make my work the more adaptable at the place.

Q. What memorable responses have you had about your work? What is the wall you are most proud of?
Not one in particular, but I’m really happy to see what people are able to see in my work and how it can inspire them. It is something really fascinating for me.
I’m proud of all I made until this moment because it makes me the person I am now and it permits my art to evolve with me. But if I have to choose one, maybe my rooftop in Lisbon.
